Khwāja Shams-ud-Dīn Muhammad Hāfez-e Shīrāzī (Persian: خواجه شمسالدین محمد حافظ شیرازی), otherwise known as "Hafez" (حافظ Hāfiz; 1325/26–1389/90) is considered one of the most important mystics and genius poets of all time. His influence can be felt from the German poet-philosopher Goethe to the Ottoman composer Buhurizade Mustafa Itri. He is considered one of the greatest mystics and sages of the Islamic world. Since today marks the honoring of Hafez's life in some quarters, I felt obliged to share a few lines from one of my all-time favourite poets. With prayers. _sy.
چو بشنوی سخن اهل دل مگو که خطاست
سخن شناس نهای جان من خطا این جاست…
در انـــدرون مــــن خستـــه دل نـــدانــــم کــیســت
کــــه مـــن خموشـــم و او در فغــان و در غوغاست…
When you hear the lovers’ words, think them not a mistake
You don’t recognize these words, the error must be your take.
I know not who resides within my heart
Though I am silent, he must shake and quake.
